The weather has been pretty warm here in Colorado lately. Nice enough that I’m ready to fire up the grill! It didn’t look too warm earlier this week in Chicago though, when Johnsonville hosted the 2017 Polar Plunge to benefit Special Olympics.
But that didn’t stop them from firing up the Big Taste Grill and serving brats to Polar Plunge participants! In fact, former Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher was on hand to help Johnsonville grill and serve the brats.
If you’re not familiar with the Big Taste Grill, it’s a 20-foot tall, 65-foot long grill with 40 square feet of grilling surface. It cooks 2,500 brats an hour or 750 bratwurst at a time. That’s a lot of bratwurst!
Which meant there were plenty of piping hot Johnsonville brats to serve to shivering polar plunge participants. Johnsonville definitely doesn’t let the weather get in the way of doing what they love–grilling brats and supporting great causes like Special Olympics.
If you haven’t fired up your grill yet this year, what are you waiting for? Don’t let the weather hold you back!
It’s actually a great time to get grilling season started, because right now, you can enter to win Johnsonville’s #FirstBrats Contest.

I wonder if my husband would rather have a break from shoveling snow or mowing the lawn?
Just a few more contest rules to be aware of:
- All eligible entries will be judged by a panel of qualified judges selected by Johnsonville. They will score the entries according to the following weighted criteria: creativity, photo quality and relevance to the Contest theme.
- Limit one prize per person.
- There is a limit of one entry per entry method per person per calendar day during the Contest period for a total of five entries per day.
Official Contest rules can be found at www.FirstBratsContest.com.
Good luck and happy grilling!
