My boys often tell me–usually at the last minute–that they need a treat to share for their after school clubs or youth group meetings. Just last weekend, my fifteen year-old needed to bring something to a get-together, so we made these super cute Spring Flower Cupcakes. His brothers even pitched in to help, and the cupcakes were a big hit with his friends!
These fun cupcakes are SO easy with the help of Pillsbury™ Cake Mixes and Frostings. They are such a convenient, inexpensive way to #MixUpAMoment, especially when you only have a moment’s notice.
And with spring and Easter gatherings right around the corner, I always want to be prepared to bring something delicious to share.
We baked up our cupcakes in nut cups, but regular cupcake papers work great too–and you can do full size or mini cupcakes. And now that Easter candy is in stores, there are some great spring colors available for embellishing these pretty treats.
We had so much fun coming up with floral designs for our cupcakes. You might wonder what motivates teenage boys to create pretty flower cupcakes. Let’s just say they really impress the girls you hang out with!
Even my college student took a break from studying for his Physics exam to get in on the action. Cooking and baking as a family has always been one of our favorite ways to spend time together, and I love that it’s something all my boys enjoy.
I made sure to stock up on Pillsbury mixes the last time I was at Walmart. Their bake center is always a good place to look for seasonal baking ideas, and there were lots of fun springtime flavors available, like Spring Funfetti® cake mix and frosting.
We used regular white cake and frosting for these cupcakes, but be sure to check back in a few weeks, because I have some Spring Funfetti Easter Cupcakes coming your way soon!
I’m sharing a basic recipe for these Spring Flower Cupcakes, but the possibilities for adaptation are endless. Just choose your favorite cake mix and frosting, add some colorful candy, and create some cupcakes that are all your own!
- 1 box (15.25 oz) Pillsbury Cake Mix plus ingredients for making batter
- 1 tub (16 oz.) Pillsbury frosting
- Various oval and round candies and sprinkles, for decorating (such as jelly beans and chocolate coated candy pieces)
- Bake cupcakes according to package directions. Cool completely.
- Spread frosting onto cooled cupcakes. Starting in the center of the cupcake and working outward, press candies into frosting to create flower patterns. (Round candies work best for the centers and oval candies work best for the petals).
Prep time includes decoration time.
- Serving Size: 24
