We have a favorite Greek restaurant in town (truthfully, it’s about the only Greek restaurant in town) and we love the tzatziki sauce. This homemade Greek Tzatziki Sauce comes pretty close to what we get at the restaurant.
Tzatziki sauce is a big favorite of my youngest, who is a huge fan of cucumbers dipped in Ranch dressing. So if you’re a fan of Cucumber Ranch dressing, this sauce will be right up your alley!
We like to use it in gyros, but it’s also good as a vegetable and chip dip. You can even thin it out with a bit of milk and use it as a salad dressing.
It’s a great accompaniment to any Greek meal. I highly recommend it alongside my Greek Turkey Meatballs. And don’t be surprised if you catch me eating it with a spoon.
If you prefer a slightly smoother dip, you can grate your cucumbers rather than chopping them.
And it really doesn’t matter much whether or not you peel the cucumbers.I find it adds a bit of color to leave the peel on, so that’s what I do.
It can be tricky to find Greek seasoning at your grocery store, so if you need to make your own, I recommend this recipe.

- 1/2 cup seeded, chopped cucumber
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup plain yogurt
- 1/4 cup sour cream
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1/2 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 teaspoon olive oil
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh dill
- 1/2 teaspoon Greek seasoning
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Place cucumber and salt in a food process and pulse until cucumber is finely chopped.
- Add the remaining ingredients and pulse until sauce reaches desired consistency. Refrigerate until ready to use.
