Pizza night is a pretty regular occurrence at our house. We don’t have a scheduled pizza night like many families do, but pizza is definitely on of our favorite meals to make together, so when I had a chance to try the Classico® line of pizza sauces (Traditional, Fire Roasted and White), I jumped at the opportunity.
When you live in a house full of boys (2 of them teenagers) any gathering with food involved is bound to get their attention, and pizza night is no exception. Sometimes we lay out lots of toppings and all make our own individual pizzas. Other times, we collaborate and come up with original pizza creations, like Meatball Sub Pizza and Cheesy Pierogi Bacon Pizza.
All of the Classico pizza sauces were top notch and had great flavor, and I love that they come in smaller jars that are perfect for pizza making. I always use a jarred sauce when making pizza because I’d rather put my time and effort into fabulous toppings or homemade dough, and the Classico sauces are some of the best I’ve tried. In fact, their Traditional Pizza Sauce was the Better Homes and Gardens 2013 Best New Product Award winner.
I knew the Fire Roasted sauce would be perfect for our hearty Meatball Sub Pizza. In addition to the sauce, Italian meatballs, fresh mozzarella and minced garlic lend this pizza all the flavors of a classic meatball sub.
I knew right away that I wanted to try making a pierogi pizza with the Classico White Pizza Sauce. This sauce won’t be available in stores until Spring of 2014 and if the pizza doesn’t get you excited about trying it, I don’t know what will! This pizza was seriously amazing. My whole family loved it and I know we’ll be making it again and again.
If you’ve never heard of pierogi, don’t worry, neither had I until I met my Canadian husband. They are actually eastern European in origin, and the best way I can think to describe them are ravioli with a cheesy mashed potato filling. They are often served with toppings like sour cream, grilled onions and crispy bacon.
